RANGERS LAND RELIEVER ADAMS

The Texas Rangers acquired pitcher Mike Adams from the San Diego Padres for pitchers Robbie Erlin and Joe Wieland.

What does it give the Texas Rangers
The Rangers already boosted their bullpen with the acquisition of Koji Uehara, and now they land Adams to shore it up even further. They already had a closer in Neftali Feliz and two veteran lefty specialists in Arthur Rhodes and Darren Oliver, so this move gives Texas one of the top bullpens among contending clubs. That said, Adams came with a hefty price in two legitimate pitching prospects.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
Both Erlin and Wieland have had good seasons in 2011, and both were promoted from High-A to AA baseball while with the Rangers organization. So, landing both of them for quality reliever Adams seems like a real coup here for the Padres. They need offense more than pitching, but whenever you can get your hands on good pitching prospects, you jump at the chance. GM Jed Hoyer did very well here.
