REDS ADD ACE LATOS FROM SD

The Cincinnati Reds acquired pitcher Mat Latos from the San Diego Padres for pitchers Edinson Volquez and Brad Boxberger, first baseman Yonder Alonso and catcher Yasmani Grandal.

What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
The Reds needed to upgrade their rotation and landed a true stud in Latos. He should team with Johnny Cueto to form a deadly duo. Cincinnati gave up a king's ransom here, but Latos is only 24 years old. He also has the mound presence manager Dusty Baker likes.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
This was an offer San Diego couldn't refuse, despite losing the staff ace. Volquez may regain past form and has a great arsenal when he's on. Alonso should win the first-base job. Grandal is now the catcher of the future for the Padres and Boxberger has closing potential. Good deal for both sides.
