AURILIA BACK TO NL WEST

The San Diego Padres acquired shortstop Rich Aurilia from the Seattle Mariners for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
Aurilia's struggles in his first season in the American League have been well documented. Perhaps this trip back to the familiar NL West is just what he needs. Rookie shortstop Khalil Greene hasn't exactly embarrassed himself this year, but knowing the veteran Aurilia is right there behind him might boost his play. Plus a little extra infield depth and some pop off the bench never hurt anyone, especially a young team trying to stay in contention like the Padres.

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
It's almost surprising the M's found a taker for Aurilia, seeing as they were forced to designate the disappointing infielder for assignment nine days before the trade. But kudos to them for getting anything for him, whatever it may be.
