MORROW GETS FRESH START WITH JAYS

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired pitcher Brandon Morrow from the Seattle Mariners for pitcher Brandon League and outfielder Johermyn Chavez.

What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
With Roy Halladay now gone, the Blue Jays are clearly trying to rebuild quickly, and Morrow is a nice option for that. If he can stay healthy and harness his elite-level stuff, Morrow projects as a potential staff ace. If things don't work out as a starter the Jays are also in need of a closer, and Morrow has shown he can be dominant in that role.

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Things didn't pan out between the M's and Morrow (a highly-coveted first-round pick in 2006). Morrow wanted to start for them but his injuries and inconsistency led to a yo-yo situation between roles. The Cliff Lee trade with Philadelphia made him even more expendable, and League fills a key need for depth in short relief. The power-hitting Chavez showed a lot of talent last season at single-A Lansing, and could push for a starting big league job in a few seasons if all goes well.
