JOSE LOPEZ TO COLORADO
The Colorado Rockies acquired infielder Jose Lopez from the Seattle Mariners for pitcher Chaz Roe.
What does it give the Colorado Rockies
Lopez was once a feared middle-of-the-order hitter and solid second baseman. Perhaps a move to Coors Field will revive his career. Look for Lopez to compete with speedy Eric Young for the starting second base gig with Colorado in 2011. If he loses out, he'll still see plenty of action all over the infield, since his versatility can also help Colorado. This could turn out to be a nice pickup for the Rockies.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Roe is a decent starting pitching prospect, so the Mariners also did well in this deal to land something for a player (Lopez) they were set to non-tender. Roe could be a candidate to crack Seattle's 25-man roster in 2011, whether it be as a starter or reliever. With Lopez officially gone, the M's will move Chone Figgins to third base and likely hand second base to rookie Dustin Ackley.
