EDGAR SANTANA SENT TO ATLANTA

The Atlanta Braves acquired pitcher Edgar Santana from the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash.

What does it give the Atlanta Braves
In Santana, the Braves add a decent right-handed reliever who pitched well in both 2017 and 2018 at the big-league level. Since then, he underwent elbow surgery and was suspended by MLB for 80 games for violations of the league's drug prevention and treatment program. At this point in his career, the 29-year-old Santana represents a dart-throw.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates got back some cash in exchange for their embattled reliever, which seems a bit underwhelming on the surface. That said, Major League Baseball teams do not give up much for a pitcher who has not pitched in three years so it is what it is. The Pirates are rebuilding with youthful arms, so Santana no longer fit in Pittsburgh.

Fantasy impact
Santana should not be added in any fantasy leagues until he shows good health and good results at the highest level this season. It might take some time.
