METS ADD TORRES AND RAMIREZ FOR PAGAN

The New York Mets acquired outfielder Andres Torres and pitcher Ramon Ramirez from the San Francisco Giants for outfielder Angel Pagan.

What does it give the New York Mets
The Mets will replace Pagan in center field with Torres, who has much better table-setting ability. That's important for a Mets team that just lost leadoff man Jose Reyes to Miami. However, Pagan is the better defensive center-fielder, and he also has more pop in his bat than does Torres. Adding Ramirez to the bullpen is also part of the equation here for the Mets, though.

What does it give the San Francisco Giants
The Giants previously acquired Melky Cabrera from Kansas City, and both Cabrera and Pagan can play all three outfield positions--adding plenty of flexibility. Pagan is super streaky, though, and his power numbers could suffer from playing half the time in San Francisco's spacious AT&T Park. He's also not guaranteed a spot in the everyday lineup, with Nate Schierholtz and Brandon Belt also around.
