PADRES PICK UP ADAM FRAZIER
The San Diego Padres acquired infielder/outfielder Adam Frazier and cash from the Pittsburgh Pirates for infielder/outfielder Tucupita Marcano, outfielder Jack Suwinski and pitcher Michell Miliano.
What does it give the San Diego Padres
In Frazier, the Padres get a versatile left-handed batter who can hit at the top of the order and play several positions. For Pittsburgh this season, Frazier was mostly a second baseman and leadoff hitter, but his role may change in San Diego. His arrival could move Jake Cronenworth (or Frazier himself) to the outfield.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The rebuilding Pirates got a lot back here for Frazier (plus $1.4 million in cash). Marcano is also a very versatile player with good upside. He might take over for Frazier at the keystone position with Pittsburgh. Suwinski and Miliano are longer-term prospects for the Bucs, so the key to this trade is clearly Marcano.
Fantasy impact
While Frazier's stock could dip slightly now that he is joining the loaded Padres lineup, Marcano's value may skyrocket if he gets the opportunity to play every day with the Pirates (which is expected). Pick him up if he is still available! Neither Suwinski nor Miliano are currently on the keeper radar.
