A'S GET GOMES AND HARRISON
The Oakland Athletics acquired catcher Yan Gomes, infielder/outfielder Josh Harrison and cash from the Washington Nationals for catcher Drew Millas and pitchers Seth Shuman and Richard Guasch.
What does it give the Oakland Athletics
For Oakland, this should help them a lot down the stretch. Gomes adds catching depth and he should complement the younger Sean Murphy well. Meanwhile, Harrison can play all over the field (and probably will in Oakland). After adding Starling Marte earlier to play center field, the Athletics look poised to contend in the American League this year.
What does it give the Washington Nationals
Of the three prospects acquired by the Nationals in this trade, Millas is probably the best. However, he is now blocked in Washington by another deadline acquisition, Keibert Ruiz. Shuman is a decent long-term pitching prospect, while Guasch is considered more of a wild card. The Nats also sent some cash to Oakland to complete the deal.
Fantasy impact
Harrison may play less in Oakland, so he may not be worth keeping on some rosters (or worth picking up in others). Gomes may split duties with Murphy on the A's, which hurts both players in terms of fantasy value. None of the three prospects added by Washington should be picked up, not even in the deepest of keeper leagues.
