BARNHART BROUGHT IN BY DETROIT

The Detroit Tigers acquired catcher Tucker Barnhart from the Cincinnati Reds for infielder Nick Quintana.

What does it give the Detroit Tigers
Adding Barnhart makes sense for the Tigers, as he will likely take over as the No. 1 catcher in Detroit. It will also allow the Tigers to use Eric Haase more as an outfielder and DH (which he did a lot of during the 2021 campaign).

What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
The Reds will likely give Tyler Stephenson the full-time catching gig next season, which explains the decision to move on from Barnhart. Quintana is a middling third base prospect who needs to start showing more in order to make it to the bigs.

Fantasy impact
Both Barnhart and Stephenson should benefit from the former's departure from Cincinnati. Both catchers should now be drafted with greater confidence in 2022. As for Quintana, fantasy keeper leagues need to see more before placing him on their radar.
