ROLEN AND GLAUS SWAP HOT CORNERS

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired third baseman Scott Rolen from the St. Louis Cardinals for third baseman Troy Glaus.

What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
Rolen has one more season left on his contract than Glaus, and he's also a defensive upgrade. Unfortunately, he has been banged up in recent years and hasn't been able to put up the offensive numbers expected of him. He should be part of a strong heart of the Blue Jays batting order, along with DH Frank Thomas, outfielders Vernon Wells and Alex Rios, as well as first baseman Lyle Overbay.

What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
Rolen clashed with Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, so the latter's departure can be viewed as addition by subtraction. In Glaus, the Cards add another veteran for the hot corner but with baggage of his own--in particular, allegations of steroid use. In St. Louis, there's a strong possibility that Glaus will be asked to bat behind superstar first baseman Albert Pujols. Can he stay healthy enough to make an impact?
