BLUE JAYS LAND COLBY RASMUS

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired outfielder Colby Rasmus and pitchers Trever Miller, Brian Tallet and P.J. Walters from the St. Louis Cardinals for pitchers Edwin Jackson, Marc Rzepczynski and Octavio Dotel, and outfielder Corey Patterson.

What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
The Jays land the key cog in this mega deal in Rasmus, who will play center field and likely bat in the middle of their batting order. He had a few issues in St. Louis, but upgrades Toronto's offense significantly. Miller, Tallet and Walters round out the deal as depth pitchers--nothing more. The trade is all about Rasmus for Toronto.

What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals have added a quality arm in Edwin Jackson, plus two capable relievers in Dotel and Rzepczynski. Patterson could take over as the fourth outfielder from Jon Jay, who is expected to take over for Rasmus as the everyday center-fielder. This move is a long-term gamble for the Cards, but it adds needed pitching depth for now.
