PHILLIES, YANKEES SWAP FOUR

The Philadelphia Phillies acquired pitcher Nick Nelson and catcher Donny Sands from the New York Yankees for infielder T.J. Rumfield and pitcher Joel Valdez.

What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
Nelson spent time with the Yankees in both 2020 and 2021, mostly as a reliever. However, he could become a starting pitcher candidate for Philadelphia in 2022. He has some untapped upside at age 26 (next month). Sands adds catching depth to the Phillies.

What does it give the New York Yankees
Rumfield is a third base prospect with some upside. The left-handed batter is not close to reaching the big leagues, so he is more of a long-range project for the Yankees. Valdez is a young, lanky lefty with good upside. He too is several years away, though.

Fantasy impact
Nelson is the only player involved in this trade that needs to be on the fantasy radar for 2022. His path to the starting rotation could be easier in Philadelphia than it was with the Yankees. Sands has little fantasy value, while both Rumfield and Valdez could be fantasy factors down the road.
