STALLINGS SENT TO MIAMI

The Miami Marlins acquired catcher Jacob Stallings from the Pittsburgh Pirates for pitchers Zach Thompson and Kyle Nicolas, and outfielder Connor Scott.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
In Stallings, the Marlins get an upgrade behind the plate. Incumbent Jorge Alfaro has been inconsistent in all areas of the game since becoming a Marlin and even spent time in the outfield in 2021. He is not expected back in 2022. Stallings will likely play most of the time for Miami.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates received three prospects in return for their starting catcher, including Thompson (who saw his first taste of action in MLB this past season). He should play in Pittsburgh as either a starter or reliever in 2022. Both Nicolas and Scott are long-range prospects with some upside.

Fantasy impact
Stallings remains a solid fantasy option after the move from Pittsburgh to Miami. He is worth drafting but do not overrate. There is always an adjustment period for any player after a trade. Thompson could become an in-season pickup in some fantasy leagues, so keep an eye on his progression during spring training. For now, both Nicolas and Scott are off the fantasy radar.
