TORONTO TRADES FOR 3B CHAPMAN

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired third baseman Matt Chapman from the Oakland Athletics for pitcher Gunnar Hoglund, infielder Kevin Smith and pitchers Zach Logue and Kirby Snead.

What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
In Chapman, the Blue Jays get one of the best players at the hot corner in the game today. His arrival solidifies a lineup that was already among the best in the American League. Chapman replaces Marcus Siemien, who signed with Texas in the off-season.

What does it give the Oakland Athletics
The Athletics are no longer competing for a division title. Instead, they are in full-blown rebuilding mode. Adding Hoglund, Smith, Logue and Snead to their prospect pool should help in that regard. Smith, who saw time in MLB in 2021, may replace Chapman.

Fantasy impact
Chapman's numbers should remain steady after this trade, and they could even get better moving away from Oakland's spacious ball park. However, expectations will now rise significantly so he must be ready. Smith could be worth drafting this year because he might start at the hot corner for Oakland. Hoglund should also be drafted in keeper leagues, while Logue and Snead are now on the fantasy radar.
