SNELLING TO PHILLY

The Philadelphia Phillies acquired outfielder Chris Snelling from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for cash.

What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
Despite this being his fifth Major League team, the 25-year-old Snelling is still an intriguing hitting prospect. He'll likely replace the departed Michael Bourn as Philadelphia's fourth outfielder, though he could become a factor in either right field or left field if A) the team doesn't re-sign or replace center-fielder Aaron Rowand, or B) they finally find a taker for left-fielder Pat Burrell.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays have a glut of outfielders, so they shouldn't miss Snelling too badly--especially since he was in the Tampa Bay organization for less than a month. More importantly, the fact Snelling was dealt may quash trade rumors involving Carl Crawford, Delmon Young or Rocco Baldelli.
