TIGERS ADD JACKSON FOR JOYCE
The Detroit Tigers acquired pitcher Edwin Jackson from the Tampa Bay Rays for outfielder Matt Joyce.
What does it give the Detroit Tigers
In Jackson, the Tigers add a quality arm that should be inserted into the underachieving Detroit rotation in 2009. He'll probably be helped by pitching half the time at spacious Comerica Park but Jackson needs to put it all together in order to become a perennial 15-game winner.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
In Joyce, the Rays get a potential right-fielder who hits left-handed and has power. However, the team is still looking for more outfield/DH help, so Joyce's status heading into 2009 is uncertain at this time. The Jackson trade should also enable Tampa Bay to insert prized prospect David Price into the rotation.
