MANAEA MOVED TO SAN DIEGO

The San Diego Padres acquired pitchers Sean Manaea and Aaron Holiday from the Oakland Athletics for infielder Euribiel Angeles and pitcher Adrian Martinez.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
In Manaea, the Padres land another quality starting pitcher for their rotation (joining Blake Snell, Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove, Mike Clevinger and Chris Paddack). Clevinger is expected to begin the 2022 campaign on the Injured List, while Paddack could be traded at some point this season. Holiday is a young right-hander in the early stages of his pro career.

What does it give the Oakland Athletics
The Athletics are completely stripping down in 2022 and starting over. After trading away cornerstone corner infielders Matt Olson (Atlanta) and Matt Chapman (Toronto), it is now Manaea who is shipped out. Angeles has plenty of upside as a long-range shortstop prospect, but is several years away. Martinez could be an option for the A's in 2022.

Fantasy impact
Manaea's value remains solid after moving from the Athletics to the Padres. Pitchers have success in Oakland but San Diego should provide far more run support. Angeles could be a decent draft option in deep keeper formats, while Martinez could be an in-season pickup if he moves into Oakland's rotation at some point. Holiday is a few years away from fantasy relevance.
