FAIRCHILD FOR BLANDINO
The San Francisco Giants acquired outfielder Stuart Fairchild from the Seattle Mariners for infielder Alex Blandino and cash.
What does it give the San Francisco Giants
In Fairchild, the Giants add an outfielder who is probably best utilized in a platoon role. That seems to be San Francisco's specialty, so Fairchild has a chance to carve out a role with the big-league team at some point this season. For now he will go to Triple-A Sacramento and wait for a call-up.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
The Mariners designated Fairchild for assignment recently, so they eventually dealt him in exchange for fellow journeyman Blandino (an infielder) and some cash. This trade is not likely to impact either Seattle or San Francisco but at least both players will get another opportunity with their new clubs.
Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy impact to speak of here, as both Fairchild and Blandino will report to the minor leagues for their respective teams.
