GIANTS GET CATCHER WYNNS
The San Francisco Giants acquired catcher Austin Wynns from the Philadelphia Phillies for pitcher Michael Plassmeyer and cash.
What does it give the San Francisco Giants
The Giants need catching depth, since rookie Joey Bart is being sent to the minor leagues to regain his confidence. Wynns should back up Curt Casali in the big leagues for the time being. Wynns is no more than a short-term depth addition.
What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies were able to get back a pitcher and cash in exchange for journeyman Wynns. Plassmeyer is a left-handed starting pitcher who was struggling at Triple-A Sacramento prior to the deal. He will get a chance to redeem himself in the Phillies organization.
Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy impact to speak of here, as Wynns will be a temporary backup catcher for the Giants and Plassmeyer will continue to toil in the minor leagues for the foreseeable future.
