BARTLETT TO SAN DIEGO

The San Diego Padres acquired infielder Jason Bartlett from the Tampa Bay Rays for pitchers Adam Russell, Cesar Ramos and Brandon Gomes, and infielder Cole Figueroa.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
In Bartlett, the Padres are looking to solidify the shortstop position for the foreseeable future. He had a down year in Tampa Bay in 2010, so he's also looking to rebound. His offensive numbers may suffer playing half the time at PETCO Park, but he should provide plenty of defensive stability. The Pads will also get a prospect later on.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays acquired three hurlers who could factor into the bullpen picture at some point. Russell should be the key acquisition, as he has late-inning upside. Ramos is a versatile lefty who could also be a factor in 2011, while Gomes is more of a long-range prospect. Figueroa also has potential, but he's a few years away.
