CARDINALS COMPLETE QUINTANA TRADE
The St. Louis Cardinals acquired pitchers Jose Quintana and Chris Stratton from the Pittsburgh Pirates for pitcher Johan Oviedo and infielder Malcom Nunez.
What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals have had issues with their starting rotation for much of 2022, so adding Quintana should help the club down the stretch. Stratton adds middle relief help to a St. Louis squad that is still a contender.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates got good mileage out of Quintana this season, and they parlayed him into two decent prospects. Oviedo can both start or relieve, while Nunez has decent potential as an offensive infielder.
Fantasy impact
Quintana is not a great fantasy option as a starting pitcher, so proceed with caution with him down the stretch. Stratton's value is negligible, while Oviedo is intriguing but unproven. Nunez is a prospect to watch now that he is with Pittsburgh's organization.
