SOTO AND BELL SENT TO SAN DIEGO!
The San Diego Padres acquired outfielder Juan Soto and first baseman Josh Bell from the Washington Nationals for infielder/outfielder C.J. Abrams, pitcher MacKenzie Gore, first baseman/designated hitter Luke Voit, outfielders Robert Hassell and James Wood, and pitcher Jarlin Susana.
What does it give the San Diego Padres
The Padres are the clear winners of this year's trade deadline, landing Soto and Bell in this trade (and closer Josh Hader from Milwaukee in a previous deal). Soto is one of the best hitters in baseball, so his addition to San Diego's outfield should be massive. He is a huge upgrade over Nomar Mazara and Wil Myers in right field. Bell should also upgrade the first base position over Hosmer.
What does it give the Washington Nationals
Abrams is a great young talent who is probably the cornerstone of the package received by the Nationals in this blockbuster. Gore should eventually become one of Washington's main starters, but is currently injured. Hassell could be the team's center-fielder of the future, and he along with Wood and Susana are the long-range prospects included in this massive deal. Overall, Washington did OK in this trade.
Fantasy impact
Soto, Bell, Abrams, Gore and Hassell should all benefit greatly from this trade. Soto will remain one of the top fantasy hitters in the game, while Bell should see a nice fantasy boost as well. Abrams could become a star in Washington but his arrival will probably bump Luis Garcia from the shortstop position. Hassell has a lot more fantasy potential than current Nationals center-fielder Victor Robles, so he should be owned in all keeper leagues. Keep an eye on both Wood and Susana. Voit will replace Bell as Washington's starting first baseman, so his value is definitely on the upswing.
