ERIC HOSMER HEADED TO BOSTON

The Boston Red Sox acquired first baseman Eric Hosmer, outfielder Cory Rosier, infielder Max Ferguson and cash from the San Diego Padres for pitcher Jay Groome.

What does it give the Boston Red Sox
Hosmer, though vastly overpaid at this point in his career, is still an upgrade at first base over the platoon of Franchy Cordero and Bobby Dalbec for the Red Sox. Rosier, Ferguson and cash were added to this deal in order to satisfy Boston.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
The Padres were motivated to dump Hosmer after adding both Juan Soto and Josh Bell from Washington in a prior deal before the trade deadline. Bell will now take over for Hosmer as San Diego's starting first baseman moving forward.

Fantasy impact
Hosmer may be available in some leagues, so he might be worth picking up because he should play regularly in Beantown. Groome is a decent pitching prospect who needed a change of scenery. Keep an eye on him. Rosier and Ferguson are decent prospects, but neither is recommendable to be picked up yet.
