MERRIFIELD MOVED TO TORONTO
The Toronto Blue Jays acquired infielder/outfielder Whit Merrifield from the Kansas City Royals for pitcher Max Castillo and infielder Samad Taylor.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays have gotten good mileage out of Santiago Espinal at the keystone position this season. However, Merrifield will probably take over as the everyday second baseman down the stretch. He joins a great lineup, so Merrifield have a chance to rebound nicely in Toronto.
What does it give the Kansas City Royals
Castillo has been a starter, reliever and opener for Toronto, so his versatility should help Kansas City in the future. Taylor is a candidate to play second base for the Royals at some point in either 2022 or 2023. Nicky Lopez might be his only true competition until the end of this season.
Fantasy impact
Merrifield should be picked up if available in most leagues because he has great rebound potential with the Blue Jays. Castillo is on the keeper radar. Keep an eye on Taylor.
