MASTROBUONI MOVED TO THE CUBS
The Chicago Cubs acquired infielder/outfielder Miles Mastrobuoni from the Tampa Bay Rays for pitcher Alfredo Zarraga.
What does it give the Chicago Cubs
In Mastrobuoni, the Cubs land an extremely versatile player who is a good bet to make the squad out of spring training in 2023. He will likely be used in a super utility role, as well as insurance for oft-injured second baseman Nick Madrigal.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays felt the need to create room on their 40-man roster to protect more prospects. Therefore, they moved Mastrobuoni for the extremely young and raw Zarraga (who does not have to be added to the 40-man roster at this time).
Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy impact here, as Mastrobuoni is unlikely to see enough regular playing time to become a factor in 2023 (and Zarraga is too many years away from MLB to be relevant).
