ELIESER HERNANDEZ HEADED TO THE METS

The New York Mets acquired pitchers Elieser Hernandez and Jeff Brigham from the Miami Marlins for pitcher Franklin Sanchez and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

What does it give the New York Mets
The Mets did well to add pitching depth with this trade. Hernandez can both start and relieve, and has some potential to bounce back in 2023 after struggling badly in 2022. Brigham adds bullpen depth for the Mets.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
The Marlins designated both Hernandez and Brigham for assignment recently so as to create room on their 40-man roster. In Sanchez, the Fish get a big arm with major strikeout potential, but also loads of wildness.

Fantasy impact
None of the pitchers traded here have much in the way of fantasy value. None should be drafted in 2023, though Hernandez might end up being waiver-wire fodder at some point.
