The Oakland Athletics acquired pitcher Chad Smith from the Colorado Rockies for pitcher Jeff Criswell.
What does it give the Oakland Athletics
In Smith, the Athletics land a decent reliever who struggled in Denver (he is not the first, nor the last hurler to have difficulty pitching in altitude). He should find Oakland's pitchers' park much more to his liking.
What does it give the Colorado Rockies
In Criswell, the Rockies get a starting pitching prospect who was selected in the second round of the 2020 draft. He seems like a solid acquisition, though all pitchers have to make major adjustments when they become Rockies.
Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy impact here, as Smith is not likely to become a closer in Oakland. Keep an eye on him in spring training, though. As for Criswell, he shows promise but Colorado pitchers should be avoided until further notice.
