FORMER TOP-10 PICKS SWITCH TEAMS

The Miami Marlins acquired pitcher A.J. Puk from the Oakland Athletics for outfielder JJ Bleday.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
Puk, a former sixth overall pick, had his best season pitching out of Oakland's bullpen last year. He was 4-3 with a 3.14 ERA and four saves in 62 appearances. Miami could use him in a high-leverage bullpen role or try to stretch him out in spring training as a starter, which he was earlier in his career (with less success).

What does it give the Oakland Athletics
Bleday was drafted fourth overall in the 2019 MLB Draft, and made his debut during the 2022 MLB season. He struggled in the majors hitting just .167 with five home runs, 16 RBI and four stolen bases. He has flashed plenty of potential in the minors, so Oakland is hoping he can reach that potential for them as they rebuild.

Fantasy impact
Puk could be a possible add as a bullpen arm in fantasy baseball if he ends up in a high-leverage role for the Marlins. If he becomes a back-of-the-rotation starter, he is less interesting until he proves himself in that role. Bleday could be worth a look in deep keeper leagues, but he still has a lot to prove before he becomes a must-add fantasy option.
