METS AND MARINERS TRADE PITCHERS
The New York Mets acquired pitchers Trevor Gott and Chris Flexen from the Seattle Mariners for pitcher Zach Muckenhirn.
What does it give the New York Mets
The Mets bullpen has struggled all season, so they hope Gott can help them in middle relief. So far this season, he has posted a 4.03 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 29 innings. The price to pay for adding Gott is also absorbing the remaining $4 million on Flexen's contract. The latter was immediately designated for assignment.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Muckenhirn was recently designated for assignment, so Seattle swooped in to add him while clearing out Flexen's salary in the process. Muckenhirn will head to Triple-A ball and serve as left-handed relief depth for the Mariners. They have many strong arms in their bullpen, so they can absorb the loss of Gott.
Fantasy impact
Both Gott and Muckenhirn are depth relievers when on the 26-man roster. There is no need to add either to fantasy rosters at this time. Flexen will be pitching for a new team fairly soon, but he has no value at this time.
