BALTIMORE BRINGS IN FUJINAMI
The Baltimore Orioles acquired pitcher Shintaro Fujinami from the Oakland Athletics for pitcher Easton Lucas.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles are expected to use Fujinami strictly in a relief role after he was both a starter and reliever in Oakland. He struggled early in the season but has posted a 3.26 ERA with 20 strikeouts since June 1. His high-velocity fastball should be even more effective in short outings out of the bullpen.
What does it give the Oakland Athletics
Fujinami, who signed out of Japan, was in his first season in MLB with the Athletics. He really struggled to find a fit, so acquiring a young-ish arm in return will add another prospect to Oakland's rebuilding plan. Lucas is a left-handed pitcher who owned a 2.73 ERA in the minors this season.
Fantasy impact
Monitor Fujinami now that he is in the bullpen full time. His strikeout rate could make for an intriguing addition to a fantasy roster. The only problem is he may not see many save or hold chances behind Yennier Cano and Felix Bautista in Baltimore. Lucas has no fantasy value at this time, but keep an eye on him.
