TWINS AND MARLINS SWAP BULLPEN ARMS
The Minnesota Twins acquired pitcher Dylan Floro from the Miami Marlins for pitcher Jorge Lopez.
What does it give the Minnesota Twins
The Twins bullpen has disappointed so far this season. They are hoping Floro can pitch in higher leverage situations than Lopez was at this point in the season, providing them another late-inning reliever to join Griffin Jax and Jhoan Duran at the back end of the bullpen. He has previous closer experience, collecting 32 saves for the Marlins over the past three years. So far this season, Floro has a 4.54 ERA with seven saves.
What does it give the Miami Marlins
Lopez is on the move for the second trade deadline in a row. Just like Minnesota, Miami hopes they are adding a high-leverage reliever to their bullpen. Lopez never found the form with the Twins that made him an All-Star with the Orioles in 2022. However, after an up-and-down stint in 2023 (5.09 ERA), Miami hopes they can get more out of him. The Marlins also gain more contract control with Lopez than they had with Floro.
