DODGERS ADD AMED ROSARIO
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired infielder/outfielder Amed Rosario from the Cleveland Guardians for pitcher Noah Syndergaard and cash.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
For the Dodgers, they are plugging a hole at shortstop that opened after Gavin Lux was injured in spring training. Even with only three home runs this season, Rosario should bring a lot more offense to the shortstop position than what Miguel Rojas has been giving them. The Dodgers have many young arms for the rotation to fill in for the departed Syndergaard, and they are likely to add a starting pitcher before the trade deadline.
What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
Syndergaard has been on the IL with a blister recently, but his return is imminent. Once healthy, he will try to fill the hole left in Cleveland's rotation after Shane Bieber went on the 60-day IL. Syndergaard has struggled this season (7.16 ERA in 12 starts), so he will look to improve down the stretch. Moving Rosario allows the Guardians to give younger infielders like Gabriel Arias, Tyler Freeman and Brayan Rocchio more opportunities.
Fantasy impact
Rosario's fantasy value should not change too much. With LA, he will most likely hit near the bottom of the lineup. He should still be productive, especially if he plays every day at shortstop (he can also play elsewhere in the infield and also some outfield). Syndergaard is not a great fantasy option this season. In Cleveland, he will most likely be their fifth starter or a bullpen arm. The most intriguing fantasy impact might come from Rocchio. Fantasy managers have been waiting for his breakout, and this deal may give him the playing time needed to do so.
