MARK CANHA DEALT TO MILWAUKEE

The Milwaukee Brewers acquired outfielder/first baseman Mark Canha and cash from the New York Mets for pitcher Justin Jarvis.

What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers
In Canha, the Brewers add another depth bat for their playoff push. He should see regular playing time in Milwaukee's outfield, where he'll be a veteran among rookies Sal Frelick, Joey Wiemer and Blake Perkins (plus the struggling Tyrone Taylor). A contact hitter with on-base skills, Canha is a solid rental for the Brewers. He can also fill in at first base and designated hitter, as needed.

What does it give the New York Mets
The Mets continue to sell ahead of the trade deadline. In moving on from Canha, they pick up Jarvis–a right-handed pitching prospect drafted in 2018. Jarvis, now 23, has worked his way up in the minors, starting games at Double-A and Triple-A ball this season. However, he has struggled mightily (AAA) and will need to show improvement before he gets a shot against big-league hitters.

Fantasy impact
Canha will continue to have limited fantasy value, even as he moves to a playoff contender. Still, keep an eye on him if his bat heats up. Jarvis has shown good strikeout ability in the minors, but he will need to overcome control issues to warrant fantasy interest in the next few seasons.
