MIAMI BRINGS IN BURGER
The Miami Marlins acquired infielder Jake Burger from the Chicago White Sox for pitcher Jake Eder.
What does it give the Miami Marlins
Miami was in need of an impact bat and Burger has just that (25 home runs in only 88 games this season). He should get regular playing time in the infield, especially at third base, where starter Jean Segura has struggled at the plate. Burger, 27, also comes with team control through at least 2028, which makes him a solid addition to the Marlins lineup for years to come.
What does it give the Chicago White Sox
In Eder, the White Sox get a highly touted pitching prospect. A tall left-handed starter, Eder was mowing down Double-A batters in 2021 but Tommy John surgery and a foot injury set him back. The 24-year-old returned in 2023 and should be close to a Triple-A promotion, with an MLB debut not too far behind. This season in the minors, he sports a 4.12 ERA in nine starts.
Fantasy impact
Burger will get a small park downgrade moving to Miami, but he should still be the valuable power hitter he was in Chicago. Continue using him as you were. Eder could arrive in the majors as soon as this season, or possibly next, so scoop him up in keeper leagues if he is still available.
