MIDDLETON GOES TO THE BRONX
The New York Yankees acquired pitcher Keynan Middleton from the Chicago White Sox for pitcher Juan Carela.
What does it give the New York Yankees
In Middleton, the Yankees add a depth right-handed reliever to their bullpen. This season, Middleton proved he can be a trustworthy big-league arm by posting a 3.96 ERA in 36.1 innings with 47 strikeouts. Though he may become a rental, he should fit right into a middle relief role with the Yankees.
What does it give the Chicago White Sox
Heading to Chicago is Carela, a 21-year-old right-handed pitching prospect. He has worked to a 3.67 ERA in high Single-A ball this season and was the No. 29 prospect in the Yankees organization (per MLB.com). He is far from a guarantee, but the White Sox will take a chance on a young arm here.
Fantasy impact
Middleton does not gain any fantasy value moving to the Yankees bullpen. At best, he could get the occasional hold and continue to post a strong strikeout rate. As for Carela, he has a long way to go in his development before potentially generating fantasy interest.
