MENCH MOVES TO TORONTO

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired outfielder Kevin Mench from the Texas Rangers for cash.

What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
Mench adds a right-handed bat for a lineup that has been struggling for offense to begin 2008. He'll likely serve as the right-handed part of a DH platoon--along with fellow veteran Matt Stairs. Mench does hit well against southpaws, which could help Toronto.

What does it give the Texas Rangers
The Rangers have gone with a youth movement in their outfield this season, so Mench was not needed at this time. So, the club decided to accept a cash offer from the Blue Jays. This is good management for the Rangers, who are building from the ground up this year.
