CANHA TRADED TO TIGERS
The Detroit Tigers acquired outfielder/first baseman Mark Canha from the Milwaukee Brewers for pitcher Blake Holub.
What does it give the Detroit Tigers
Detroit is looking to improve after a disappointing 2023 season, and the addition of Canha should help them do just that. To the young Tigers' lineup, Canha brings a quality veteran bat with plus on-base skills. His versatility is also an asset. He should play every day be it in a corner outfield spot, at first base, or at designated hitter.
What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers
Holub is an interesting pitching prospect. A 2021 draft pick of the Tigers, Holub worked his way up to Double-A ball this past season, pitching to an impressive 3.03 ERA with 76 strikeouts in 65.1 innings. If the 25-year-old continues to progress and eventually pitches for the Brewers, this could become a sneaky trade for the Brew Crew.
Fantasy impact
Though a coveted MLB veteran, Canha's lack of power or speed makes him only of marginal interest in fantasy leagues. Moving to spacious Comerica Park will not boost his value, but he could see additional RBI opportunities if he bats in the middle of the Tigers order.
