YANKEES AND RED SOX MAKE RARE TRADE
The New York Yankees acquired outfielder Alex Verdugo from the Boston Red Sox for pitchers Greg Weissert, Richard Fitts and Nicholas Judice.
What does it give the New York Yankees
Hopefully, the sky will not fall after witnessing a trade between these two MLB archrivals. Verdugo will likely play either left or right field for New York, who is looking to reshape the outfield (if not the entire roster) this off-season. Verdugo's left-handed bat should play well at Yankee Stadium. Does this take the Yankees out of the mix for Juan Soto? Or, will they add yet another outfielder this winter? Stay tuned!
What does it give the Boston Red Sox
For the Red Sox, moving on from their starting right-fielder is a bit surprising (especially considering their trade partners). However, Weissert has some upside as a late-inning reliever. Furthermore, Fitts and Judice have good potential for the future. So, this trade is not bad for Boston. That said, they now have a gaping hole in the outfield. Will the Red Sox be active this winter? They need to be.
Fantasy impact
Verdugo should put up better numbers in New York than he did in Boston, since Yankee Stadium is a better park for left-handed hitters. Draft him as a potential sleeper in 2024. Weissert could carve out a big role in Boston, so monitor his progress during spring training. Fitts and Judice are now on the keeper radar.
