RED SOX AND REDBIRDS MAKE TRADE
The Boston Red Sox acquired outfielder Tyler O'Neill from the St. Louis Cardinals for pitchers Nick Robertson and Victor Santos.
What does it give the Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox need outfield help after trading Alex Verdugo to the Yankees recently. O'Neill should help, especially since he is versatile defensively and a right-handed bat (which should play well at Fenway Park).
What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
For the Cardinals, adding two more arms for an outfielder is good asset management (since St. Louis is deeper in outfield depth than pitching depth at present time). Both Robertson and Santos could pitch in MLB in 2024.
Fantasy impact
O'Neill's fantasy value should improve with the Red Sox, so he could be an interesting later-round draft option in '24. Santos has some keeper appeal as a potential starter for the Cardinals, while Robertson is more likely to carve out a bullpen role. His value is negligible.
