GIANTS SEND STRIPLING ACROSS THE BAY
The Oakland Athletics acquired pitcher Ross Stripling and cash from the San Francisco Giants for outfielder Jonah Cox.

Stripling has been known for his ability to pitch as both a starter and reliever throughout his career. The A's needed an experienced arm to eat innings in a rotation lacking talent. He should have a chance yet again to prove his worth as a starter. The money will help offset the cost of Stripling's contract for the ever-stingy A's organization.
What does it give the San Francisco Giants
For San Francisco, the most important part of this trade is moving out Stripling's contract. Manager Bob Melvin said recently that the Giants are still in on the top remaining free agents, so is this a sign they will land one? Cox was just drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 MLB draft. Therefore, he will start his Giants career in the low minors.
Fantasy impact
Stripling is more valuable as a starting pitcher. However, on a team that is expected to struggle in Oakland, he should be on the waiver wire throughout the season in most fantasy leagues. Cox is several years away from fantasy prominence.
