Once believed to be a promising starter in the Brewers system, Small was recently designated for assignment. After a strong Triple-A season in 2023, the Giants could use Small as pitching depth for either their rotation or bullpen.

Like several trades for players recently designated for assignment, cash is the return for the Brewers. Milwaukee has overhauled the pitching staff this winter with the hopes of getting better results in 2024.
