What does it give the Chicago White Sox
Horn should provide bullpen depth to the White Sox this season. He was originally drafted by the Pale Hose, so obviously the organization likes his arm.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
Thompson had been invited to White Sox spring training on a minor-league deal, so he will presumably be invited to Cubs training camp now.
