YIMI GARCIA GOES TO SEATTLE
The Seattle Mariners acquired pitcher Yimi Garcia from the Toronto Blue Jays for outfielder Jonatan Clase and catcher Jacob Sharp.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
The Mariners continue to add in their bid to win the American League West division. In Garcia, Seattle is getting a late-game shutdown reliever who is having one of the best seasons of his MLB career. He currently has a 2.70 earned-run average with 42 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched in 2024. He will slide into a setup role with the Mariners, getting the occasional save chance along the way. This should really aid a bullpen that lost Matt Brash before the season started.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays are unexpected sellers this deadline after underperforming all season. Garcia was one of their best assets, but more trades should be expected. Clase made his MLB debut this season, with his batting numbers nothing to write home about so far. He is best known for his speed, swiping 79 bases in the minors in 2023. Expect him to get more opportunities with Toronto. Sharp is playing Single-A ball this season and adds catching depth.
Fantasy impact
Garcia's fantasy value remains strong with him now being in Seattle. He will fill a similar role that he has had all season, so similar success should be expected. Clase has yet not established himself in MLB, so fantasy managers have not been able to get a read on him. If he can establish himself, he will help all fantasy managers with steals. Sharp has no value.
