DODGERS BRING BACK AMED ROSARIO
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired outfielder/infielder Amed Rosario from the Tampa Bay Rays for pitcher Mike Flynn.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
For the second year in a row, the Dodgers have made a deal for Rosario just ahead of the trade deadline. This season, he had a strong first half with the Rays, hitting .307 in 76 games. While his playing time may not be as consistent in Los Angeles, he should at least platoon against left-handers. He may also step right into an everyday role with so many Dodgers infielders dealing with injuries. Rosario's ability to play all around the infield and outfield always makes him a valuable addition.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
With Rosario playing on only a one-year contract, the Rays elected to move him for a potentially longer-term asset. Flynn is a 27-year-old reliever who has yet to make his MLB debut. Still, this has been his best minor-league season by far, posting a 4.25 ERA in 42.1 innings with a great 1.16 WHIP and a strikeout rate over 12. It is no guarantee that he will earn a big-league promotion, but Tampa Bay (his fourth organization) could be where it happens.
Fantasy impact
Rosario will not likely do enough with the Dodgers to be a factor in most fantasy formats. Still, he may be of most use right away in deeper leagues, with many Dodgers hitters currently on the injured list. Flynn can be ignored.
