BALTIMORE TRADES FOR TREVOR ROGERS
The Baltimore Orioles acquired pitcher Trevor Rogers from the Miami Marlins for infielder Connor Norby and outfielder Kyle Stowers.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles strengthen their starting rotation with the addition of Rogers. The tall left-hander should slot in as their new No. 5 starter ahead of Albert Suarez. Rogers is still just 26 years old, has two years left on his contract and is having a decent bounce-back season (4.53 ERA in 105.1 IP)–though his strikeout/walk ratio (85:46) still needs improvement. He may never return to his all-star form of 2021, but Rogers is proving he can still be a useful innings eater.
What does it give the Miami Marlins
Since his breakout 2021 season, Rogers has battled injuries and inconsistency. Pitching is also a strength for the Marlins, so they did well to get quality hitting prospects in this trade. Norby and Stowers have little left to prove in the minors, and both project to provide much-needed power to Miami's lineup. With the team selling ahead of the trade deadline, both players will likely get an extended look this season (Norby in the infield and Stowers in the outfield).
Fantasy impact
Rogers' fantasy value gets a small boost here, as he should pick up more wins in Baltimore. AL opponents will also be less familiar with his pitching arsenal. Still, he will be facing tough divisional opponents, and is departing pitcher-friendly loanDepot Park. As for Norby and Stowers, they should benefit from moving to a team with far less depth. Both should get a chance to prove themselves this year, and they have the tools to be of interest to fantasy managers.
