ARIZONA BRINGS IN BELL

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired first baseman/designated hitter Josh Bell from the Miami Marlins for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
Bell provides the Diamondbacks with depth at first base (and DH) as they challenge for an NL Wild Card spot. Christian Walker is also set to miss some time on the injured list, so Bell should take on a starting role right away. After a solid 2023, the vet is struggling but does have 14 homers and 49 RBI.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
The Marlins waived Bell a few days before this trade, but no teams were interested due to his high salary. He is also on an expiring contract. Miami ended up being able to move him (with Arizona taking on a portion of his salary). They will now be able to give more playing time to younger players in place of Bell.

Fantasy impact
Bell had been heating up prior to this trade, and is now a good candidate for a strong second half. He receives an immediate fantasy boost as a result. He should now get more RBI opportunities in a lineup with more offensive weapons. He will also play in a more hitter-friendly park in Arizona. However, Bell's long-term value could diminish when Walker returns from the IL.
