COBB CLEVELAND BOUND

The Cleveland Guardians acquired pitcher Alex Cobb from the San Francisco Giants for pitcher Jacob Bresnahan and a player to be named later.

What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
Cobb has missed all season due to injury. It sounds like he is getting near the end of his rehab assignment, so barring a setback he could join the Guardians in the near future. Once healthy, he may fill the fifth spot in the rotation. It would be unfair to expect Cobb to be in 2023 all-star form, but the veteran pitcher knows how to get outs. He should be good for the Guardians.

What does it give the San Francisco Giants
The Giants were hoping to have a healthy Cobb much earlier in the season. Unfortunately, he had other injuries as he was trying to make a return. With the Giants fading in the playoff picture, they decided to sell the pending free agent. Bresnahan has started 12 games in Single-A this season. The left-hander has an encouraging 2.70 ERA with 66 strikeouts in 50 innings.

Fantasy impact
Cobb will be a mystery in fantasy baseball once he returns from the injured list. No one knows how he will perform. With some very weak teams in the AL, he could be worth a spot-start against those teams for fantasy managers. Bresnahan has no fantasy value at this time.
