METS BOLSTER ROTATION WITH BLACKBURN

The New York Mets acquired pitcher Paul Blackburn from the Oakland Athletics for pitcher Kade Morris.

What does it give the New York Mets
Blackburn looks to be the Kodai Senga replacement for the Mets, after just returning from injury himself. Blackburn does nothing spectacular but is a serviceable back-of-the-rotation starter. His 2024 stat line (4.41 ERA, 38 K in 51 IP) sums up his ability perfectly. The Mets should not expect more than that. Blackburn will give them stability.

What does it give the Oakland Athletics
Morris is a strike-throwing starting pitcher with a diverse repertoire. He has shown off those strengths in Single-A this season. His ceiling looks to be that of a back-end starter. Even with Blackburn not being a great starter, this return seems a little underwhelming compared to what other starting pitchers have fetched in a sellers' market.

Fantasy impact
Blackburn is not much of a fantasy player. His low strikeout totals and higher ERA are not a good combination. Being so low in the minors, Morris holds no value either.
