METS, MARLINS STRIKE A DEAL
The New York Mets acquired pitcher Huascar Brazoban from the Miami Marlins for infielder/outfielder Wilfredo Lara.
What does it give the New York Mets
Brazoban provides the Mets with another veteran middle reliever as they challenge for an NL playoff spot. He is having the best year of his MLB career, posting a 2.93 ERA in 30.2 innings so far. If he keeps that up, he could potentially get some holds for the Mets as the season goes on.
What does it give the Miami Marlins
At age 34, Brazoban was not going to have a long-term role with the Marlins. So, after his great first half, they have moved him for a hitting prospect. Lara is just 20 years old and is noted for his speed, but he also has some power. Lara moved up to high Single-A ball this season.
Fantasy impact
Brazoban should help the Mets bullpen, but in all likelihood he will not pitch in high-leverage situations. That will keep him off the fantasy radar. Lara is intriguing, but a long-term prospect.
